The days and weeks are measured by the rising and setting of the sun, and the months are reckoned by the cycle of the moon. In a symbolic sense, the rising and setting of the sun regulates man’s day-to-day activities—his struggle to survive, to grow, live, and love. The moon, on the other hand, regulates the religious calendar and reminds the Jewish people of the promises of YHWH.
