It is time to embrace mental health and substance use/abuse as illnesses. Addiction is a disease.

By drinking, a boy acts like a man. After drinking, many a man acts like a boy.

Theirs was a tug-of-war and neither could let go. Both felt the burn and still wouldn't let go. Some might call it a game for neither could admit defeat.
Be an informed advocate and support.
Just because you have baggage doesn't mean you have to lug it around.
